He’s not smart, but he sure is big and strong, Big the Cat is his name. Big is a giant feline with an even bigger heart. Big has appeared in few Sonic games, but in everyone, he played a pretty big role.

Big’s first appearance was Sonic Adventure for the Sega Dreamcast. His story began with his best friend, a cute little frog named Froggy, awakes from atop Big’s belly because he hears a loud bang. Froggy goes to look and sees a strange puddle. This puddle possesses Froggy and gives him a long, pointy tail. Big then awakes and sees Froggy’s tail and wonder’s what was wrong. He goes to go look at Froggy, but he quickly jumps onto Big’s table and eats Big’s “Lucky Charm”, a chao emerald. After Froggy runs off, Big goes on a search for him but little to his knowledge, Eggman was also looking for the frog with “Chaos’ tail”. Big’s levels revolved around fishing Froggy out of a pond. It’s about as exciting as it sounds.

Big then appeared in Sonic Shuffle, the Mario Party-like board game for the Dreamcast, as a hidden character. In the game, Froggy was his special. Froggy jumped from spot to spot, as big followed after. Big also had a small cameo role in Sonic Adventure 2, and he was also playable in the two player mode. His next appearances were in the Gamecube remakes of Sonic Adventure 1 and 2.

His next major role was in Sonic Heroes. Froggy had once again gone missing, and Big needed to find him. He teamed up with Amy Rose and Cream the Rabbit to help find him. In this game, Big obtained a new Fishing Pole/Umbrella item. He used the fishing pole part to shoot Amy and Cream at enemies, and to spin around above his head as a flaming lure hit the enemies. He used the umbrella part to glide up gusts of wind as Amy and Cream hung on for dear life.

Not the brightest crayon in the box, Big will always have a place in our hearts.
